Holding an Awareness Program for 150 Districts, Councils and Community Elders

Date: Thursday, 27 August 2020

Venue: Women Empowerment and Social Association (WESA) Conference Room

An awareness-raising program was launched for 150 districts, councils, and community elders of fifteen urban districts and six rural districts of Herat Province.

This program is aimed at raising awareness about child protection so that these people can reduce cases of violence against children and have appropriate cooperation with the relevant authorities.

The first session of this program officially started on Thursday, 27 August 2020 in the Conference room of the Women Empowerment and Social Association (WESA). 27 district elders, mullahs, and the local councils attended on the first day of the program.

Child protection, violence against children, underage marriages, protection against COVID-19, addiction, the importance of education, hard work, and more were mentioned in the first program for the participants.

This program is to be held in 5 courses for a total of 150 participants.

The first day of the program was warmly welcomed by the participants and they demanded the continuation of such programs.

As a large number of children are doing hard works in brick kilns, a similar program is to be held for 25 kiln owners and tenants to raise awareness about the importance of child protection.

It is worth mentioning that this program has been launched with considering all health protocols to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. There is also an amount of cash provided for each participant for their transportation by Help.

This awareness program is part of the programs of the German Help in Herat province, which is being implemented with the financial support of UNICEF in Herat, Ghor, and Farah provinces.
