Subject: Visiting Vocational Training Center

On December 8, 2018, Ansari Vocational Training Center/VTC hosted Netherlands’ Ambassador, Ernst Norman, and his First Secretary, Jorg Zinken accompanied with World Food Program/WFP delegation, Paul Howe, WFP’s Vice-Country Director in Afghanistan, Fabienne Moust, WFP’s Program Policy Officer, Abdul Qadir Assemy, Head of WFP’s sub-office in Herat and Hassamuddin Wasim, Program Associate of WFP in Herat.

Netherlands is one of the donors of WFP’s Vocational Skills Training (VST) program in Afghanistan. The aim of the visit was to observe Help vocational training activities in Ansari VTC. Based on the agreement between Help and WFP, the Ansari VTC’s beneficiaries receive E-Voucher from WFP to get basic food needs.

Zabihullah Monib, Country Director of Help in Afghanistan explained Help’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) project and the support of WFP and other stakeholders in smooth and successful implementation of the project. Mr. Monib added that besides food distribution through E-Voucher, in some cases, WFP also cooperates with Help in providing toolkits to TVET beneficiaries.

Ernst Norman and his team visited the vocational courses in Ansari VTC and discussed with beneficiaries, trainers, and the VTC’s staff about training methods, Food E-voucher’s redemption, food quality, beneficiaries’ feedback, and beneficiaries’ plans on business start-up. The visitors were impressed about Help’s TVET program and indicated that such programs increase self-sufficiency among lower-income people in communities.
