Story of Morsal, A successful case of “PSS & Case Management”, CPiE AFG118-22

Morsal is a 6-year-old originally from Helmand province and has been living in Herat city with her mother and 6 siblings for 4 months. Morsal’s drug-addict father died in Helmand about 5 years ago. Currently, the eldest child of the family, who is 16 years old, earns 150 AFN as income generation daily.

According to Morsal’s mother, he had a normal growth process until he was one year old, but due to economic poverty and the family’s inability to provide for the child’s basic needs, he suffered from malnutrition and the lack of proper food caused soft bones in Morsal, and the softness of the bone caused Morsel’s leg to break four times from different parts.

According to Morsal’s mother, these charities have helped Morsal’s family with house rent, basic household items, rice, oil, flour, and cash in the last four months.

On May 8, 2022, Morsal was introduced to Help Germany (CPiE project) by a charity organization for the provision of emergency medical treatment support through the hospitals for a few nights to control the fever and dressings constantly. At that point, she was hospitalized in Mehraban hospital where the fever was controlled resulted changing her dressing timely. However, two days later, the condition of Morsal’s leg wounds worsened again, and the doctors said that she needs surgery out of Herat city and that her leg should be operated on as soon as possible, otherwise it might be amputated. Therefore, with the financial support of the IOM and IRC offices, the CPiE project staff led by Help Afghanistan, transported Morsal and her mother were sent to the French hospital in Kabul for surgery on her leg, and Morsal is now in very good health condition after operating and able to walk, run and play with other children and her leg was prevented from amputation as a result of the efforts of Help Afghanistan.

We are extremely happy with the healing of Morsal because our distress is reduced and we no longer need to go to charity organizations for help, and we already have to spend all our incomes on Morsal’s medical treatment. But now we can buy them food and eat them, said the mother of Morsal.
