Workshop on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) by UNICEF

A training workshop on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) was organized by UNICEF Herat in UNICEF Conference Hall. The workshop aimed at promoting and increasing the awareness on principles, rules, regulations and policies of United Nations Organization / UNICEF on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse among Help INGO and Dept. of Labour and Social Affairs (DoLSA) staff, and for staff of – Help’s local partner NGO and Association – Organization for Sustainable Aid in Afghanistan / OSAA and Women Empowerment and Social Association / WESA.

All Help INGO staff including program, administrative, logistics and TVET Depts. attended the workshop. Also senior and managers staff of OSAA, leading staff of DoLSA in labor, TVET and administrative units and Director of WESA attended the workshop.

PSEA is an online learning course on the topic which is obligatory to all UN and its partner organizations staff including volunteers and contractors. PSEA online learning course is composed of a set of lessons designed to raise awareness about Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, become familiar with a range of measures to combat Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, understand what the impact of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse on victims is and the consequences for UN and its Partners’ Personnel who commit Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.

PSEA is divided in four lessons that are composed of the following topics:

Lesson 1: UN Standards of Conduct of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Lesson 2: Obligations and commitments of UN Personnel and its partners

Lesson 3: Consequences of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

Lesson 4: Responsibilities of Heads of Offices/Heads of Departments

The workshop was conducted online in UNICEF of Herat and the topics and assessments were explained to participants by Mr. Farzan Hosainy from UNICEF and Mr. Mohammad Ali Soroosh from Help INGO.

There were 24 participants from Help including staff and head of program, administrative staff, coordinators, trainers, guards and drivers. There were 3 participants from OSAA, one participant from WESA and 6 staff of DoLSA. Altogether 34 staff attended the workshop.

All topics, sub-topics, principles, definitions, standards, case studies, reporting mechanism, questions, assessments and some video clips etc. on prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse were explained, conducted and completed during the 2 and half-hours’ workshop.

All participants were familiarized with their responsibilities in preventing and reporting cases of sexual exploitation and abuse and with the policy and rules of UN on preventing of sexual exploitation and abuse.

At the end of workshop participants were told that they can individually complete the online workshop, familiarize themselves further with the topic and receive an online certificate.
