The Counter Narcotics Department of Bamyan in coordination with Help INGO organized Narcotics Harms Awareness Program for 100 TVET beneficiaries of this center in the wake of World Counter-Narcotics Week.

Mr. Hossain Nazari Nickpai, Head of Counter Narcotics Department, Mr. M. Edris Sharify, Provincial Director of Help in Bamyan, TVET trainers and beneficiaries participated in this program.

On the onset, Mr. Edris Sharify, speaking on behalf of Help INGO, welcomed all participants and expressed his satisfaction of holding Narcotics Harms Awareness programs by Counter Narcotics Department in Bamyan and added that such programs could raise community awareness and save those who are unknowingly victims of drugs.

Then, Mr. Nickpai, Head of Counter Narcotics Department, appreciated Help for cooperation in organizing “Awareness of Narcotics Harms” program. He considered drugs as a dreadful phenomenon and provided comprehensive information to the participants on the narcotics harms, alternatives to prevent the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics and addiction treatment methods through health facilities.

He also added that according to statistics, 7 to 8 percent of the population in the cities’ centers and 13 to 15 percent of the population in the villages of Afghanistan are directly and indirectly affected by the harms of narcotics. He continued that the lack of awareness of the dangers of narcotics has caused the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics find thriving market in Afghanistan and so many of our compatriots annually fall victims of this threatening phenomenon. Mr. Nickpai described TVET as valuable programs for youths, added that since unemployment is one of the major causes of using drugs, so having a job and income can help prevent drug addiction. TVET can be a significant solution for this point.

At the end of the program, a documentary film of drug addicts was broadcasted and brochures with the subject of “Let’s Say No to Narcotics” were distributed to the participants.
