Bamyan Introduced As Cultural Capital of SAARC Nations

The central Bamyan province of Afghanistan was for the first time introduced as the cultural capital of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) for the year 2015.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan said on Sunday that Bamyan was named the cultural capital of SAARC nations for 2015, following efforts by regional cooperation directorate of Foreign Affairs Ministry.

According to a statement released by Foreign Affairs Ministry, a delegation of the SAARC cultural centre visited Kabul on 16th June and met the Minister of Culture and Information of Afghanistan, Dr. Makhdoom Raheen in this regard.

The statement further added that the delegation also met the deputy minister for Culture and Information and deputy chief of directorate for regional cooperation in Afghanistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation discussed preparations for the inauguration of ceremony to name Bamyan city as the first cultural capital of SAARC nations, the statement added.

The statement said the delegation also visited Bamyan city and the other historical sites of Bamyan city from 19th to 20th of June.

The delegation on Saturday formally announced that Bamyan city has been named as cultural capital of SAARC nations for 2015.

Several cultural events are expected to be organized by SAARC nations in Bamyan city in 2015, Foreign Affairs Ministry said, adding that the events will include seminars, exhibitions, musical events along with folkloric dances from South Asia, exhibition of handicrafts, food exhibitions, traditional exhibitions, silk route exhibition and numerous other exhibitions will be organized.
