The First Seminar on “Introduction of Biogas System” launches in Herat

The First Seminar on “Introduction of Biogas System” was jointly conducted by Help and BORDA INGOs on Monday, 14 September 2015 in Human Rights Commission Hall in Herat.

The aim of this one-day seminar was to introduce Biogas system, develop further coordination among governmental and non-governmental sectors for better implementation, promotion and use of biogas, awareness and informing participating sectors on Biogas system in Herat and discuss the importance of creating biogas consortium in Herat.

Totally 34 people from 17 relevant governmental and non-governmental departments and sectors attended the seminar including Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Department of Environmental Protection, General Department of Harirod Murghab River Basins (Renewable Energies’ Directorate), Herat Municipality, The Governor’s consultant and expert on Environmental Protection, Department of Urban Planning, Heads of Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Engineering of Herat University.

Eng. Najibullah Nuri, BORDA’s Engineering Department team leader presented complete information on function and advantages of biogas system, facilities, resources and opportunities in Afghanistan for activation and development of this system for participants of the seminar.

Then, participants were divided in four groups and discussed the importance and challenges ahead of biogas system in Afghanistan and presented their ideas. They discussed the problems created by lack of proper wastewater treatment systems in governmental departments, hospitals, schools and private houses and presented possible solutions for these problems.

Afghanistan biogas consortium which had been established by BORDA organization in Kabul was introduced in this seminar and the importance of its establishment in Herat was discussed. The goal of biogas consortium is information sharing and exchange of ideas to promote and develop sustainable implementation of the biogas system.

The Governor’s consultant and expert on Environmental Protection, Mr. Barak stated his support for the promotion and development of biogas system and said that he will share the goals and effectiveness of this system with the governor and will report officially to local organizations through Herat local office to promote, develop and build support for Biogas system.

In the end, a number of participants and governmental sectors visited the ongoing construction of biogas system located in Ghaibatan village of Injil district. The project coordinator of Help biogas project gave information on construction process and function of biogas system.
