UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia held a Video Conference for its Partners Organizations on “Reimagining Youth Skills in a Rapidly Changing World.”

A zoom video conference was held on 15 July 2020 between the UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia and its partner organizations on “Reimagining Youth Skills in a Rapidly Changing World”.

In this video conference, nearly 180 participants attended to exchange information on relevant initiatives taking place in South Asia and to discuss ways to advance strategic partnerships in the region.

Mohammad Ali Soroosh, Program Manager of Help for Afghanistan participated and talked on behalf of Help German’s country office for Afghanistan. He while briefly introducing the Help, provided information about the activities of the Help in Afghanistan to the participants. He referred to the joint activities of Help with UNICEF and also gave some points to the audience about the effectiveness of the implemented programs.

As he mentioned, Help in Afghanistan has developed a functioning structure, network, and qualified human resources able to run livelihood programs including quality TVET and employment services.

Mr. Soroush went on to point out the challenges posed by the Outbreak of the Corona Virus. As Herat province is adjacent to Iran, where the Corona Virus has been spreading rapidly, the spread of this virus in this province has increased more comparing to other provinces in Afghanistan, which has suspended some activities of Help in Herat province including vocational training courses.

He also noted that Help has recently run a project with the financial support of the European Union, UNICEF, and Help Headquarters in Germany to provide vocational training courses for the most vulnerable and street working children.

The project is running for the training of 2,300 most vulnerable and street working children or one of their immediate family members from (August 2019 to 31 July 2021) through TVET and Employment services.

TVET and Employment services ensure long-term and sustainable income generation which in turn reduces vulnerability and increases the chances of integration in the community.

In the following of this video conference, a new report from GBC-Education titled “Resilience: a new youth skill for the fourth industrial revolution” was presented.

The purpose of this Video conference was to ensure that besides of challenges created by the Outbreak of COVID-19, the program of learning, training, and employment for youth is in progress.
